The Hikurangi Sewer Rehabilitation project was undertaken to upgrade and renew the existing wastewater network using a combination of trenchless technology and conventional construction methods.
The project included investigation and condition assessment, pipeline cleaning and CCTV inspection, CIPP rehabilitation, lateral connection reinstatement, manhole rehabilitation, open-cut replacement and associated infrastructure works.

Source detection, cleaning and CCTV inspection of approximately 6,200 metres of sewer pipes.
CIPP Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation of approximately 1,800 metres of sewer pipeline using CIPP lining technology.
Connections & Manholes
Reinstatement of 175 lateral connections and rehabilitation of 49 existing manholes.
Pipeline Replacement
Open-cut replacement of sewer infrastructure where conventional construction was required.

The sewer network was cleaned and inspected using CCTV technology to understand existing pipeline conditions.
Assess
Pipeline conditions were reviewed to determine the most suitable rehabilitation or replacement solution.
Rehabilitate
CIPP lining, lateral connection works and manhole rehabilitation were completed using specialist techniques.
Renew
Infrastructure requiring conventional construction was renewed through open-cut replacement works.
