The Project

Renewing Critical Infrastructure

New Zealand Lining delivered a comprehensive sewer rehabilitation programme for the Hikurangi wastewater network.

Project Overview

A smarter approach to wastewater renewal.

The Hikurangi Sewer Rehabilitation project was undertaken to upgrade and renew the existing wastewater network using a combination of trenchless technology and conventional construction methods.

The project included investigation and condition assessment, pipeline cleaning and CCTV inspection, CIPP rehabilitation, lateral connection reinstatement, manhole rehabilitation, open-cut replacement and associated infrastructure works.

Delivering the right solution for every part of the network.

Project Scope

Hikurangi by the numbers.

A significant programme of investigation, rehabilitation and wastewater infrastructure renewal.

6,200m

Sewer Inspected

Source detection, cleaning and CCTV inspection of sewer pipelines.

1,800m

CIPP Lining

Sewer pipeline rehabilitated using CIPP technology.

175

Lateral Connections

Lateral connections reinstated as part of the rehabilitation programme.

49

Manholes

Existing manholes rehabilitated during the project.

The Challenge

One network.
Multiple solutions.

The existing wastewater network required a comprehensive approach to identify pipeline conditions and determine the most appropriate rehabilitation or replacement solution for each section of infrastructure.

  • Investigating the existing sewer network
  • Identifying pipeline conditions
  • Rehabilitating existing pipelines
  • Repairing lateral connections
  • Renewing deteriorated infrastructure
  • Completing conventional replacement works
What We Delivered

A complete rehabilitation programme.

Specialist trenchless technology and conventional construction methods were combined to deliver the most suitable solution across the wastewater network.

01

CCTV Investigation

Source detection, cleaning and CCTV inspection of approximately 6,200 metres of sewer pipes.

02

CIPP Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation of approximately 1,800 metres of sewer pipeline using CIPP lining technology.

03

Connections & Manholes

Reinstatement of 175 lateral connections and rehabilitation of 49 existing manholes.

04

Pipeline Replacement

Open-cut replacement of sewer infrastructure where conventional construction was required.

Project Delivery

From investigation to renewal.

A structured approach was used to investigate, assess and renew the Hikurangi wastewater network.

01

Investigate

The sewer network was cleaned and inspected using CCTV technology to understand existing pipeline conditions.

02

Assess

Pipeline conditions were reviewed to determine the most suitable rehabilitation or replacement solution.

03

Rehabilitate

CIPP lining, lateral connection works and manhole rehabilitation were completed using specialist techniques.

04

Renew

Infrastructure requiring conventional construction was renewed through open-cut replacement works.

Project Outcome

Quality at every stage.

The project delivered renewed wastewater infrastructure while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, environmental performance and communication.

Safety & Quality

Safety and quality audits carried out by the client were compliant.

High-Quality Installation

CIPP samples were tested, with mechanical properties exceeding the required standard results for strength and flexure modules.

Strong Project Performance

The project achieved strong performance across safety, environmental management, work quality and communication.
